WINGS THEMED MEETING - Christmas in Tudor Times (3 Nov 2021)

We had a wonderful opportunity at the November WINGS meeting to travel back in time to the court of King Henry VIII and to learn more about life and Christmas celebrations during the Tudor period. Our resident Tudor expert, Sarah, regaled us with tales of sumptuous feasts, descriptions of interesting foods and cooking techniques, stories of rituals and traditions (many of which we still observe today) and some very impressive rules for table etiquette in the 16th-century royal court. Sarah’s knack for story-telling and her passion for all things Tudor made for a fascinating and enlightening presentation, which she continued into the supper with an amazing table setting featuring a large (artificial!) pig and Christmas-themed foliage and decorations. Our thanks must go to Sarah for an informative and entertaining talk and for such an enjoyable evening.
