WINGS is a melting pot of different nationalities, cultures, languages, food and so much more. On 5th June, our WINGS monthly meeting provided a platform to showcase a glimpse of who we are.
Up to 24 different languages were spoken in one night: Indian, Spanish, Slovakian, Dutch, Albanian, Taiwanese, Mandarin, Italian, Spanish, Indonesian, Malayalam, German, Afrikaans, Urdu, Zulu, Xhosa, North Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, Greek, Japanese, French and Maori. We also had a chance to hear several different English accents, such as UK, Kiwi, American and Canadian. It was an opportunity to show off our languages and dialects, as well as the beautiful traditional costumes that some ladies wore. It was also an evening full of joy and aroha, where we learnt so much from one another.
The evening ended with the sharing of delicious food from different countries, including pavlova and Maori bread form NZ, boerewors (sausage) from South Africa, buttermilk coconut cake from Germany and lumpia with satay sauce from Indonesia.
A massive “thank-you” to all the gorgeous WINGS ladies for making WINGS who we are.
