Testimonials

I moved from London less than a year ago and needless to say, it was a huge adjustment for me. Once I got settled in I decided to attend some WINGS events. I was immediately welcomed with open arms by an incredible international group of women of all ages. It has been a wonderful experience being a part of the group. WINGS helped make Whangarei feel more like home to me and I'm thankful that the group exists.

I have been in the country for only three months now, and it already feels like home. My husband and I have come from England, we have no one here. Getting to know WINGS has been a blessing, I have been introduced to many people all from different walks of life, sharing their stories. Being new to not just Whangarei but New Zealand as well, WINGS has been my hub for any information or suggestion I want. I am not only a member of WINGS but also a volunteer helping out in the WINGS office. A massive thank you to WINGS for their support and love. It has indeed taught me to "BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED".

Arriving back in New Zealand after 21 yrs away and with COVID starting just after returning, it was impossible to get out or meet people and I was desperate to meet new people. I searched for Women’s Clubs and saw WINGS. Just what I needed and have enjoyed meeting women of all ages, nationality and with amazing stories of how they came to Whangarei and found WINGS. Come and join us at coffee meets or a variety of activities. Love to see you.

Honestly, arriving in Whangarei by myself, without family or friends, was challenging. It felt a bit lonely at first due to the unfamiliar weather, cultural shock, and adjusting to the local English accent. Luckily, I got the chance to join a social night for WINGS members
at the Whangarei Women’s Club. I quickly realized I wasn’t the only one feeling like a stranger in a new place. WINGS offers a variety of inclusive programs for women, and being part of their fun gatherings made all the difference.

One of the great things about WINGS is that even if you don’t have a car, you can always get a free lift from other members. It’s an amazing way to connect, share your culture, and learn from others. Meeting new people brought fresh energy into my life and made the new surroundings feel more welcoming. Don’t shy away from new faces—sometimes they’re exactly what you need to feel at home.
